Bobby Chhabra, MD, is a Lillian T. Pratt Distinguished Professor at the University of Virginia (UVA) and has chaired the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2013. Having founded the UVA Hand Center and the UVA Health Orthopaedic Center, he currently serves as UVA Health Orthopedic Center director and is also a UVA Athletics Department team physician. Among Dr. Bobby Chhabra’s areas of knowledge is treating elbow, wrist, and hand trauma and sports injuries as well as nerve injuries and congenital hand differences.
Dr. Chhabra had a pivotal role as physician-lead in guiding the development and building of the UVA Health Orthopedic Center. The 200,000-square-foot comprehensive facility opened to the regional community in 2022. He has earned numerous honors in his role as professor, including the David A. Harrison Distinguished Educator Award, which stands as the UVA School of Medicine’s highest teaching distinction.
Known for his research accomplishments, Dr. Chhabra has presented in global forums and has served as visiting professor at nearly three dozen academic institutions. He has hosted the local weekly programs Real Athletic Conversations and The Best Seat in the House Injury Report on ESPN/WINA radio for eight years, discussing a wide range of sports medicine topics. Dr. Bobby Chhabra is former president of the Virginia Orthopaedic Society and a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is currently President-Elect for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
